Related Companies Dataform Link
The Related Companies link is a very helpful custom dataform link to add to your Client Master dataform. The Related Companies link displays a popup of all companies related to a parent company and allows you to jump to the Client Master record of a related company. Up to three levels are displayed: Parent > Child > Grandchild.
Note: Advanced administrative access is required to set this link up, inactivate this link, or move this link. If you need assistance setting up this link, please enter an extranet case.
Here's how it works!
First your Global Administrator must configure the Related Companies link to display on the Client Master dataform (see Configuring Custom Dataform Links ).
Then, for ClientSpace to display related companies, you must identify parent and child relationships for your companies. This is easily and quickly done on the Client Master dataform.
Identify a parent company by setting the Parent Company field of a parent company to itself.
In the example below, we have opened the Client Master record of a fictitious company named ABCD. It has no Parent Company but is the Parent Company so the Parent Company field is blank:
Then, we set the Parent Company on the Client Master of a Child Company named Talbot's Twisted Tea to ABCD as shown in the example below:
Talbot's Twisted Tea is also the Parent Company of multiple other companies. The parent company, ABCD, is listed at the top in bold text, following by the child company, Talbot's Twisted Tea. All of the companies listed under Talbot's Twisted Tea are their child companies (or grandchildren,of ABCD, the parent company).
Now, when we click the Related Companies link on the Client Master record of the parent or child records, a list of related companies displays. Here we have clicked the Related Companies link on Talbot's Twisted Tea where in one glance, you can see the Parent > Child > Grandchildren relationships.
Note:
The display of related companies using the Client Master Related Companies link has been improved as follows:
-
If there is a record identified as the Parent Company, the Parent and Child relationships display. If a record has no parent record, the Child and Grandchild relationships display.
-
When available, the Client Number is listed after each company name in the list, separated by a hyphen.
-
Companies are ordered as follows:
-
The Parent Company is always at the top of the list in bold text.
-
Other Client companies are listed first.
-
Other remaining companies are then listed in ascending order by Client Number, if a Client Number is available.
-
If no Client Numbers are available, the other remaining companies are listed in ascending alphabetical order (from A to Z).
-
-
Up to three levels are displayed: Parent > Child > Grandchild.
Note: If you want to see additional levels or "Great Grandchildren", open the Client Master record of a secondary (Child) or tertiary (Grandchild) company and click the Related Companies link to drill further down into the relationships. Clicking the blue folder
next to a related company in the list opens the Client Master record of a related company.
-
A right arrow
always displays in front of the name of the currently displayed Client Master.
-
Child Companies are always indented under the Parent Company and Grandchildren are always indented under the Child Company as illustrated below as illustrated below where we have now opened the Related Companies link for Bonzai Tree Service, a child company of Talbot's Twisted Tea. Here you can see that Talbot's Twisted Tea is now recognized as the Parent Company and that many of the Child Companies (such as Kitty's Korner) are also Parent Companies to a Grandchild of Talbot's Twisted Tea:
